Dartford working men's club & institute, originated September 30th 1885 when a group of working men passed a resolution to form a club.

Committee was formed consisting of C. Barker, G. Britton-Coe, F. Davis, W.J. Davis, J. Egan, E.H. Martin, G. Martin & A. Turner.

The first committee meeting was held on October 7th 1885 at Bridge house, Dartford. Mr Everard Hesketh was elected president and the following were added to the committee J. Bevan, H. Leach, H. Moncur, G. Morris, A. Morrissey, & F. Phillemore.

Westgate House
 

Above -  Westgate House, the former home of the Hall family c.1909.
This imposing building later housed the Dartford Working Men's Club and institute.

One famous visitor was the Prince of Wales who attended a dance in 1928.  Facilities included a library, billiards room and hot and cold baths.
